UN-Water launched its new strategy 2014-2020 in June, 2014 entitled ‘Delivering as One on Water Related Issues’. The concise document provides the main directions for the seven years ahead and outlines what success might look like in 2020.
“Our success and our future prospects are based on how well we are able to deliver as one - both on current and future challenges,” says Michel Jarraud, Chair of UN-Water. “Today, the great ideas and work of UN entities and organizations dedicated to water issues are sometimes not enough on their own. The key to success is collaboration and long-term commitment which is why I believe that the launch of the strategy is a major step forward to advance water issues on the international agenda.”
After ten years of working together, this strategy reaffi rms the commitment of UN-Water. It sets the stage for the seven years ahead in terms of strategic directions, ways to collaborate and portrays a strong mechanism with a clear vision of where to go and how to get there. “Th e launch also provides an opportunity for more stakeholders to get on board and play an active role with water issues gaining more momentum - especially in the post-2015 discussions,” says Jarraud.
