Dennis D. Mwanza is SUWASA Chief of Party
In January, 2013, Dr. Dennis D. Mwanza was appointed Chief of Party of the six year USAID funded regional program –theSUWASA (Sustainable Water and Sanitation for Africa) based in Nairobi, Kenya. He previously held the position of Deputy Chief of Party. SUWASA’s main goal is to promote sustainable water sector reforms in Sub-Saharan Africa. Before joining SUWASA, Dr. Dennis Mwanza was a Senior Water and Sanitation Specialist and also the Urban Global Practice Team leader responsible for coordinating and promoting urban activities within the Water and Sanitation Programme -Africa (WSP of the World Bank). Dennis helped steer reforms in the Zambian water sector which led to the establishment of the first autonomous water sector regulator in Anglo-phone Africa and the commercialization of urban water services delivery through establishment of commercially oriented utilities throughout the country.
He is the former Managing Director of the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company in Zambia and also previously held the post of Managing Director of the Water Utility Partnership for capacity building in Africa based in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Dennis brings to SUWASA extensive knowledge and experience of water sector reforms in countries throughout Africa including, in particular, a profound knowledge of the status of reforms in Franco-phone and Anglo-phone Africa and the experiences with private sector participation.
