IGAD Water Ministers’ Meeting Opens in Addis Ababa
A Meeting of the Water Ministers of the member countries of the Intergovernmental Authority Development (IGAD) opened in Addis Ababa with a technical committee meeting on January 20. The Ministerial meeting followed the following day.
The Water Ministers are deliberating on water resource management and utilization in the region. The meeting is discussing a draft policy for water resource utilization and administration in the region. The draft has been under preparation for the past three years.
The draft policy document is expected to lay down details for equitable and rational utilization of water resources in the region. Ethiopia has always taken a lead in encouraging the water policy of equitable and fair water utilization among nations for development in the region.
Water Ministers from the seven member states of IGAD, i.e., Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda and Tanzania are attended the meeting.
